Keshia Thomas

My name is Keshia Thomas, I am a life-long Fresno native. I have been in education for the last 15 years.

Prior to beginning my career in education, I completed a vocational class and became a Licensed Cosmetologist, not satisfied with that career; I worked in the retail grocery business and became a Journeyman Cashier and supervisor. While working I attended college and obtained a BA and Ma in Math and obtained my Teaching Credentials.

I began my education career teaching Algebra and Geometry at one of our local charter schools, and
have been employed as teacher in Fresno Unified as a 7-8th grade math instructor. I held an
administrative position as the director of a Careers Program in which I was responsible for helping
students’ transition from high school into the workforce. This transition led me to pursue my
administrative credential. This movement into administration set the foundation for me to desire a
more permanent role in administration, as a Vice Principal. Being a Vice-Principal was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever encountered. For now I have transitioned back into the classroom to become more accessible to my youngest son and I am currently teaching Algebra at McLane High School where I am happy and honored to serve students I love and enjoy.

I owe the success in my life to education. I was fortunate to have had parents that never questioned
whether or not I was going to college. Although I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth,
education has been the foundation of a successful career and the stability to instill the same values in my children and my students. All of this has led me to know where my true passion, which is serving the students of Fresno Unified School District as a Trustee.

I have decided to put together a campaign to become the next Fresno Unified Trustee in Area 1, which serves the Edison High School area. I am certain that my passion, life experience and professional experience make me a uniquely qualified candidate for this position. I spend time giving back to my community through my homeless ministry at which I prepare and serve meals carrying on the legacy of my Grandmother Jimmie Echols with whom I served meals for many years. I also serve as in the Children’s Church at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where I am a lifelong member.

I have three wonderful children and one grandson in which I couldn’t be more proud. My daughter is the oldest and is a college graduate who has given me one of the best gifts of all, my grandson; she is married to Robert Golden an Edison Graduate who plays for the Pittsburg Steelers. My middle son is in his first semester of college and is a proud Edison Tigers Graduate. My youngest is in his first year of middle school. The thing that inspires me most are my children and my students. Every day they give me the motivation to be better and strive for excellence as a lifelong learner and educator.
